Let kids craft letter shapes for
early reading fun!

Kids crafts and arts are an ideal way to develop
their early reading skills! With this 32 page Jazzles
crafts, arts collage book, children can have
fun while learning alphabet letter
recognition.
Research shows that linking letters with
sounds is the single most important step
in early reading readiness.
The Jazzles 'Alphabet Collage'
book is full of visual and tactile arts and crafts
experiences to help children understand and recall letter
shapes.
How To Have Fun Collaging:
"While children collage, I like to talk to them using as many words
as possible starting with the collage letter we are working on.
For example, with the letter 'M', I link the activity to the Jazzles CD 'M' song and its lyrics.
I add multiple dimensions by painting the 'M' in watermelon pink, gluing melon seeds all over it and then
discussing it with the children using as many alliterative words as I can. For example, "What a marvellous mouth-watering magnificent melon!" to reinforce the sound-letter link.
I ask children for their own ideas too, so you get helpful hints such as dribbling dirt inside the 'D'
letter outline! Just the sort of thing children love to do!
Children love being creative. They love music too. This makes the activity even more enjoyable when they sing along as they collage, strongly reinforcing the sound/letter relationship!
When you start to collage, select the track of the same letter on the Jazzles 'Alphabet Clever Songs'
CD and have fun! You can the collage ideas in this book, or better still, create your own! Don't forget to ask your children for their ideas too!"
My Collage Tips
- Photocopy the page you want to collage
- Make sure your collage page is strongly backed - paste the pages on recycled cereal boxes, construction board, etc
- You may like to paint or otherwise complete the background before you collage the "letter"
- Look out for interesting collage materials everywhere! You will find them in the garden, on a walk, going shopping, in the kitchen, in clothes chests and work baskets, etc
- Get ready before starting. Make sure you have strong glue, scissors, crayons, pencils, paint and a variety of collage materials
- Play the appropriate alphabet letter song from the Jazzles "Alphabet Clever Songs" CD and sing along as you collage

Encourage your children to completely
collage the whole area of each letter while

materials, or for heavier collage materials,
photocopy the page and mount it on card
before collaging.

sesame seeds, dried herbs, pot-pourri, sugar, chocolate powder,
